Blues-rock jam track: This tune is a blue-rock track in the key of B.

Backing track instruments: electric guitar, fretless bass and drums.

Progression: B7-Bb7, E7-Eb7, B7-Bb7, F#7-F7-F#7-F7-E7-Eb7-E7, B7-Bb7, E7-F7-F#7

The actual chords being played (in order) over where I've put B7-Bb7 above are: B7-B7-Bb7-B7-B7-Bb7-B7-B7-Bb7-Bb and similarly for the other chords. The guitar tab for the chord shapes used is shown below.

Suggestions: The B Blues scale and some groove is all you need to get rockin' on this progression.

Everyone's Keen Chords and Progression

The B7 to Bb7 shape you are sliding up and back from each chord. The same goes for the E7 to Eb7 chord and the F#7 to F7 (and down to the E7-Eb7) chords.

It's a little bit tricky to play the chord slides at this tempo but you'll get there if you slow it down first and ensure that you are moving between each chord cleanly.

If you don't slow it down first and are doing it wrong you'll be practicing your mistakes. Slow it down, master it and then bring it up to speed. That's the best way to master anything on the guitar.

Everyone's Keen Scale Suggestions

1. B Blues Scale - 7th Position - Two Octaves

This is the most common pattern for playing the Blues scale. For the B Blues scale our Root note (B) is located on the 7th fret of the 6th (low E) string.

The notes of any blues scale relative to the notes of a Major scale (i.e. if we number the notes of the Major scale as: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7): are 1, b3, 4, b5, 5 and b7. The 1 is our Root note. The b3 is the 'flat 3rd'. The 4th is the same note used in the Major scale. The b5th (flat 5th) is the 'blue' note. The 5th is the same as that used in the Major scale. The b7th is the flat (or dominant) 7th.

E|---------------------------------7-
B|---------------------------7-10---
G|-------------------7-9-10---------
D|--------------7-9-----------------
A|-------7-8-9----------------------
E|-7-10-----------------------------

2. B Blues Scale - 14th Position - Two Octaves

Let's move the scale above up the neck so we are playing in 14th position.

These are the same notes as shown in pattern 1 except we are starting the scale one Octave higher. The intervals are the same though: 1, b3, 4, b5, 5 and b7.

E|-----------------------------------------17-19-
B|--------------------------15-17-18-19--------
G|-------------------14-16-----------------------
D|--------14-15-16------------------------------
A|-14-17-----------------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------------------

Everyone's Keen Bass Tab

The bass guitar part for Everyone's Keen is more focused on the rhythm than melody. You are playing the Root note of each chord and moving back and forward one fret (one semi-tone) to the Major 7th of each chord.

To expand the bass line use other notes from the B Major scale, such as the Major 3rd and 5th. You should also experiment with using both the b7th and Major 7th off the Root note of each chord in this 12 bar blues-rock progression.

Make sure you keep the rhythm tight so the tune doesn't loose the groove.
