The drum beat for Jimmy Jam is a steady paced rock beat that keeps the rhythm guitar and bass nice and tight.

The 8 bar progression is fairly straight forward except the back beat strays from the 2nd and 4th beats of the bar in the 6th and 8th bars of the tune where the bass drum follows the rhythm of the walking bass line for a bit of variation.

Instead of playing eighth notes on the hi-hats you could drop the 'an' of each beat and play quarter notes on either the hi-hat or move it over to the bell of the ride cymbal. Another variation you could try is to play the snare on each beat of the bar and play syncopated notes on the bass drum along with the rhythm of the bass guitar.
