Missing Javapuss
mp3: Missing Javapuss Time/size: 4 mins 11 secs/5.9mb. 84 beats per minute/bpm Acoustic rock jam track: This is a soft rock jam track played on the acoustic guitar.. Backing track instruments: acoustic guitar, fretless bass and drums. Progression: I'm playing a very simple progression for Missing Javapuss using the chords D Major 7 and A Major. The D Major 7 briefly visits the D Major chord before playing the A chord. Suggestions: Start with playing Major pentatonic scales over each chord. Play the D Major pentatonic scale over the D Major 7 chord and the A Major pentatonic scale over the A Major chord. Once you have some nice licks happening from using just the notes from those two scales you could add the C# note over the D Major 7 chord. The C# is the Major 7th of the D Major chord. Below is the guitar tab for both the D and A Major pentatonic scales in 4th position. 4th position means that you place your index finger on the 4th fret of the guitar neck. It doesn't mean that you will necessarily fret a note at the 4th fret, just that is where the position of your index finger is. Notice that although the notes are different, the pattern used for both scales is exactly the same. If you wanted to play a C Major pentatonic scale you would simply move your hand so that your middle finger is on the 8th fret which is the note C and play the same pattern as for the D and A Major pentatonic scales (which would put you in 7th position). This is one of the great things about learning to play guitar; once you learn a pattern for one type of scale you can use that same pattern up and down the guitar neck for all keys. Too cool for school!
Chords: The tab for the chord shapes I'm playing are shown below. When I'm playing the A Major chord I don't actually play the high E string. I play the lazy muso's A Major chord (the lazy muso being myself). I play this voicing because I use my index finger to fret each of the notes on the 2nd fret (on the D, G and B strings). If I want to sound the open E on the high E string I have to bend my index finger back up off the fretboard a little which requires a tiny bit of effort on my part, which I'm not willing to do. How lazy is that? If I were any lazier I'd probably stop finishing my sent...
