Eric Johnson - East Wes

This video of Eric Johnson is live from the Austin City Limits show. There are some killer chords throughout the tune but the thing that always grabs me with this song is the guitar part that he plays which he starts around the 1.57 minute mark; awesome notes and tone. Plus he shows that he doesn't always have to shred to impress. There is also a great bass guitar solo played by Kyle Brock. In case you don't realize, the song is called East Wes as a tribute to the jazz great, Wes Montgomery. Wes Montgomery's signature sound came from the use of playing octaves with his thumb. A technique that is easy to pick up and really effective for creating nice tones with your fingers. Countless guitar players have used this technique - everyone from Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan to Steve Vai. Get into it.

Bill Withers - Ain't No Sunshine

This is a lesson in the cool. A classic song played live nice and laid back with everyone playing for the song: very light and supporting the singer. And the drummer's gotta be one of the hippest cats you ever did see. Even with it being played this laid back they are playing in the pocket and totally nailing the groove.

Rod Stewart & Jeff Beck - People Get Ready

This is an awesome live video of Jeff Beck playing the Curtis Mayfield song People Get Ready. Very cool with Rod Stewart walking out and surprising Jeff Beck. If you want to hear some great guitar playing check out some Jeff Beck albums. He is a tone master, playing with his fingers.

The bass player in this clip is Tal Wilkenfeld - she has been around a few years and played with some of the greats. Rock, blues, jazz you name it. Vinnie Colaiuta is on drums who is probably best known for playing with Frank Zappa. One of the best.
