Strange Things Afoot Scale Suggestions

1. F Major Pentatonic Scale - 7th Position - Two Octaves

The A Major Pentatonic scale is a 5 note scale that consists of the Root, 2nd, 3rd, 5th and 6th degrees of the A Major scale.

Here is the guitar tab for the F Major pentatonic scale starting on the Root note F at the 8th fret on the A string and moving up two Octaves to the F located on the 13th fret of the 1st (high E) string.

Play this scale over the entire progression (i.e. over both the F Major and Bb Major chords).

E|------------------------------10-13-
B|-----------------------10-13--------
G|-------------7-10-12---------------
D|-------7-10-------------------------
A|-8-10-------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------

2. F Major Scale - 7th Position - Two Octaves

If we add the 4th and 7th degrees of the F Major scale to the F Major Pentatonic scale in pattern 1 above you'll be playing the full F Major Scale. The 4th and 7th degrees of the scale that we've added to the pentatonic scale are shown in blue.

Play this scale over just the F Major chord.

E|--------------------------------------10-12-13-
B|---------------------------10-11-13------------
G|---------------7-9-10-12-----------------------
D|-------7-8-10-----------------------------------
A|-8-10-------------------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------------------

3. Bb Lydian Mode - 12th Position - Two Octaves

Shift up to 12th position and raise the 4th note of the F Major scale (raised 4th's are shown in blue) and you are now playing the Bb Lydian mode.

Play this scale (or mode) over the Bb Major chord and see what guitar licks you can come up with.

E|--------------------------------------------15-17-18-
B|---------------------------------15-17-18------------
G|------------------12-14-15-17-----------------------
D|-------12-14-15--------------------------------------
A|-13-15-----------------------------------------------
E|-------------------------------------------------------

Strange Things Afoot Bass Tab

This is a good bass line to get you thinking about chord tones and lead in notes when moving from one chord to another.

There are only 2 chords in this progression which makes it a bit easier to think about the note choices you are making.

G|-------------------------------------------------------------
D|-------------------------------------------------------------
A|------------3-0-1-1-0-1-1---------------3-0-1-1-0-1-1---
E|-1-1-0-1-1-----------------0-1-1-0-1-1-----------------0-
